Would you buy an Android?

Are there moral implications to owning a robot that is very humanlike? How could it change our world?

------------------below is from the LA Times----------
The female android robot EveR-3 from South Korea is checked at the Hannover Messe 2009 fair for industrial technology during opening day in Hanover, central Germany. More than 6,000 exhibitors from 61 countries will present their latest in high-tech know-how through Friday.

  1. I think people don't like the idea of someone else playing god. This is why they don't like the idea of human-like robots or cloning. Or maybe people don't want human-like robots because they've seen The Terminator one, too many times.

  2. i dont think tht there is anything moral about owning a robot tht is human-like. its just a robot. it can look like a human and may be made to have a body like a human, but its still a robot. its programmed and is made by humans to basically obey them. it cant think for itself or have any feelings. there would be too much controversy in the world with people owning human-like robots.

  4. I think that it will be more hard to own a robot. Even though they can do everything its not good.

  5. This reminds me of the movie I-Robot. I am kind of scared at the fact that people want robots. I understands that we are making the world better and easier with all this new technology, but they are machines. The new technology is not to imitate or be human like but to make things easier for a human. Why do we need human like robots in the first place. Later on in the future we will have robots do everything for us and we will think that we still dominate but the truth is that we became lazy obese people that don't want to lift a finger anymore.

  6. I feel that the use of robots will complicate the already complicated lifestyle that humans live. I also feel that they would be more a a burden in the long run than have a positive impact. Humans, particularly students already rely so much on machines to do the thinking and footwork for them could you imagine how much more lazy we will all get. In addition to becoming lazy a direct implication would be that humans would no longer do more than what they had to. This would mean that our scientific and community advancements would much less than they are now.

  7. I think robots can change our lives by making some things easier. I don't think they have the ability to make things complicated, they are made to help.

  8. Robots would make things too easy for us. If we had a robot to do everything for us we would become even more lazy. Hasn't anyone seen the movie on Disney channel Smart House?

  9. robots to me are just an excuse to do things and make life easier for you... what ever happen to the concept to where hard work will pay off.... instead we have robots and other numerous gadgets doing are own work for us... this is where the world civilization is becoming lazy....
