What makes a prison a prison?

"Stone Walls do not a prison make nor iron bars a cage."

  1. The behavior that prisoners adapt as a result of being in prison is what makes a prison a prison. A prison is designed to take away an individual's freedom by imposing limitations. Many times these limitations effects the way the prisoner views life and can be seen in his/her behavior even after the individual has been set free.

  2. Isolation. Being stuck somewhere you don't want to be.

  3. A prison isn't defined by what its made of. Prisons should only be called such if it has major limitations on a persons freedom. Isolation is another key factor, without being around loved ones a person feels cut off from the world. Taking away their options and limiting their available resources lets people know they are no longer free and they are in a prison.

  4. What makes a prison is from being cut off from everything else: friends, family, entertainment, and enjoying life. without that makes a prison for someone mentally. by this, the prisoner can have mental problems from the isolation.

  5. What makes a prison is a place where you can be isolated from all that you love. Sometimes you can just live a normal life at home, but you can live alone with no family with everyone hating you or just no one that you love or care about talk to you. That is enough to be a prison for some people.

  8. The degradation ceremony where the inmates are humiliated, and the inmates identities are stripped is what makes a prison.

When people are forced to adhere to certain rules. Eat when they are told to. Shower when they are told to. Sleep when they are told to.

When all rights and respect are taken away.
